The 5
Elias Pettersson – The goals haven’t been there yet for Pettersson, with just 3 in 11 games, but assists are more than keeping him afloat. 7 of those points came last week for this budding superstar. If you’re in a dynasty league, this is a must have player, as he could be a first round pick in redraft next year and he is just 22.
Nick Schmaltz – Schmaltz has been hidden in the desert. He is at a point per game, and had 7 points in 4 games last week, with 3 of those coming on the power play. If you’re in a league where he is available(he is unowned in 35% of ESPN leagues, 50% in Yahoo), you should be picking him up in all league sizes.
Kasperi Kapanen – Kapanen had a big week with 6 points in 5 games for the Leafs. He is a player I would be keeping an eye on right now. He is playing on the 3rd line, and the second PP unit, but isn’t at a point threshold where he must be rostered.
Ryan Ellis – Ellis has been a beast so far, 13 points in 11 games. Ellis has always been a premium offensive defecemen, who you get at a discount on draft day because of Nashville’s depth on the blue line. If you got the draft day deal, you should be feeling pretty good right now.
Anders Nilsson – If you’re playing in a league where wins aren’t the only goalie category that matters, then you might want to take a look at Nilsson. Ottawa isn’t a great goalie situation, but his numbers have been good enough to warrant Nilsson getting more time between the pipes.
