The first week is in the books, and somehow some of the players are not hurt (yet). The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have played a couple more than most teams due to the Seoul Series so we’re talking basically a weekend’s worth of games for most. NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO OVERREACT! Write that down. Read it again. It is not time to overreact no matter how frustrated you are with a player. Let’s start the review at 10,000 feet:
The class of the NL West has gotten out to a strong start with Arizona leading the league in offense, while the Dodgers take the cake in pitching, and runner up with the bats. The recently sold Baltimore Orioles (RIP Peter Angelos, fan and man of the little people), Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants are all a notable step back from the elites, but their own small step above the rest of mankind below. Moving to the bottom we see little surprise as sadsack clubs that did little to improve like the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals are all looking to break the replacement level ceiling. A sample this small isn’t worth a whole lot so the images of what has occurred can be found below, but I would caution against sending your interpreter out for six loaves of bread and a dime of milk based on this stuff alone.
