Many people who play fantasy football are sometimes in more than one league. This can make it difficult to keep track of what is going on in the NFL especially as it relates to your fantasy team or teams. However, there is one important thing to remember is that to the best of your ability, you need to keep track of the players and their playing status. This is especially true in the season of COVID-19. This will be even more true as many leagues are heading into their playoffs in Week 14.
Something happened in my home league last night that allowed me to get a victory when I was almost certain to go down in defeat. The thing about this is that everyone in our league is still in contention for a playoff spot as all 12 teams in our league have a record of either 5-7, 6-6, or 7-5. For some unknown reason, my opponent started Pittsburgh’s kicker, Chris Boswell, who did not play on Monday night due to an injury. This came on the heels of an announcement that was made Sunday that Boswell was unlikely to play on Monday night. Even if he waited just before game time, he could have picked up Boswell’s replacement or even plucked Greg Zuerlein off our waiver wire. (I know my opponent is not sick or anything as we exchanged messages) This more than likely cost him the game as he only needed four points for the win, and any chance to win the division and the extra prize that is awarded.
Now more than ever, keeping track of your players is vital for fantasy success.
To that end, here is this week’s waiver wire suggestion in case you need someone for your roster.
QUARTERBACKS
JALEN HURTS – EAGLES
Hurts was recently named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Saints and is somewhat of a high-risk/high reward option. His ability to run adds to this but with limited sample size, this would be a risky start.
PHILLIP RIVERS – COLTS
The veteran offers a safer option and gets a great matchup in Week 14 at the Raiders, who are No. 10 in Fantasy points allowed against opposing quarterbacks. Looking ahead, Rivers will face the Texans in Week 15.
RUNNING BACKS
TY JOHNSON – JETS
Johnson surprised on Sunday by totaling 117 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown after taking over for Frank Gore, who remains in concussion protocol. if Johnson gets the start, the 23-year-old will take on a Seattle Seahawks unit that just allowed 135 yards to another backup-turned-starter in the Giants’ Wayne Gallman.
CAM AKERS – RAMS
The rookie had a career-high 21 carries in Week 13, finishing with 71 yards and finding the end zone as well, outpacing Darrell Henderson Jr. by 18 carries. He may not be the starter but is worth picking up and could produce for you down the stretch.
ADRIAN PETERSON – LIONS
Peterson has four rushing touchdowns over the past two weeks and remains the feature back for Detroit while D’Andre Swift is out. He is not what he used to be, but he does provide numbers as long as he gets the volume and has value as backfield depth.
WIDE RECEIVERS
T.Y. Hilton – Colts
The once former wideout fantasy stud is only owned in around 50% of most leagues and has been playing like the Hilton of old. Hopefully, the newfound chemistry with Phillip Rivers will continue.
TIM PATRICK – Broncos
Patrick’s fantasy numbers have been impressively consistent since the Broncos moved him into the starting lineup to replace the injured Courtland Sutton. As long as the Broncos can field a true quarterback, he should continue to have solid fantasy production.
KeKe COUTEE – Texans
In the first game of Will Fuller’s suspension, Coutee delivered 141 yards on eight catches against a tough Colts defense. He has proven to be a trusted target for Deshaun Watson and should remain in this role for the rest of the season.
TIGHT ENDS
LOGAN THOMAS – WFT
Thomas was excellent Monday night at Pittsburgh with a career-high nine catches on nine targets for 98 yards and a touchdown. In the inconsistent TE position, Thomas could easily be a top-10 TE the rest of the way.
JORDAN REED – 49ERS
If you like the revenge game factor, Reed is your guy in week 14 as he faces his former team, the WFT. Reed did have a touchdown in the 49er’s loss to Buffalo on Monday night.
