Welcome back for week 14 of Streams and Nightmares, where we try to help you plan out your fantasy pitching staff for the upcoming week.
Pitchers are broken down into the following 4 groups. No Brainers, which is pretty self-explanatory. Lock and Load, who are must starts based on match-ups and their expected total value for the week. Proceed with Caution are guys that, depending on the options I have available, I probably start in most 15 teamers, but iffy below that. Potential Nightmares are guys to avoid in mixed leagues. Streamers are guys with lower ownership levels that I am looking to add for this week. Their availability will be league size dependent.
No Brainers:
Trevor Bauer @ KC, @ CIN
Patrick Corbin vs ARI, vs SD
David Price @ TOR, @ DET
Charlie Morton vs BAL, vs NYY
Lock and Load:
Mike Minor vs LAA, @ MIN (Tough match-ups. This may be the week regression bites, but he’s earned a little trust)
Matthew Boyd @CWS, vs BOS (Boston are less scary against lefties. Have to start based on his results to date)
Jack Flaherty @ SEA, @ SF (It hasn’t been pretty, but the K’s alone make this week enticing. Good parks may help with his homer problem)
Jake Odorizzi @ OAK, vs TEX (Having a solid year and a nice source of W’s)
Joe Musgrove vs CHC, vs MIL (Appears to have re-found his mojo)
Kyle Hendricks @ PIT, @ CWS (A little worried about coming off the IL, but @ PIT is a nice place to land if he does come back Tuesday. If he does, he should pick up the 2nd start)
James Paxton @ NYM, @ TB (It’s been a rocky ride so far. Better parks if nothing else might help this week. I don’t think you can sit him with the K & W upside)
Proceed With Caution:
Griffin Canning @ TEX, @ HOU (This week could be rough with 2 bad match-ups. Still, the rookie’s been very consistent so far)
Ryan Yarbrough vs BAL, vs NYY (I just hold my nose and take the W’s)
Matt Strahm vs SF, @ LAD (Struggled recently with the long ball. In fact, he is on a 6 game double homer streak. Vs SF is nice. @ LAD isn’t. Hoping for a dominant 1st step)
Zac Gallen @ WAS, @ ATL (The skills seem apparent, but it’s a tough week to learn on the job. There is upside here, but might need some luck to find a win this week)
Logan Allen vs SF, @ LAD (Same match-ups as Strahm, but hard to ignore his 2 impressive starts so far. Doesn’t have the same K upside as Gallen)
Ross Stripling vs ARI, vs SD (May not go deep into starts for a while, if at all and hasn’t been as dominant as last year. Betting on the skills to show through soon)
Dallas Keuchel vs PHI, vs MIA (Doesn’t look like a dominant pitcher anymore. Good chance to go deep and earn wins though)
Potential Nightmares:
Chase Anderson @ CIN, @ PIT (Has been quietly improved recently, but I’m holding back trust a little longer)
Daniel Mengden vs MIN, @ SEA
Jose Urquidy @ COL, vs LAA (I’m looking to pick Urquidy up based on his stellar numbers in the PCL this year. I’m not starting him yet though with a tough week of match-ups)
Dylan Bundy @ TB, @ TOR
Wade LeBlanc vs STL, vs OAK (I’m a little more interested now he’s behind an opener and a better chance for wins)
Nick Pivetta @ ATL, @ NYM
Reynaldo Lopez vs DET, vs CHC
Trevor Williams vs CHC, vs MIL
Jeff Samardzija @ SD, vs STL (Is getting crushed even at home these days. I hope you’re not desperate enough to start him)
Ariel Jurado vs TEX, @ MIN
Tyler Mahle vs MIL, vs CLE (Don’t let the home splits fool you. Regression is coming in Cincy)
Trent Thornton vs BOS, vs BAL
Jacob Junis vs CLE, @ WAS
Glen Sparkman @ TOR, @ WAS
Jose Suarez @ TEX, @ HOU
Adrian Houser @ CIN, @ PIT
Clayton Richard vs KC, vs BAL
Taylor Clarke @ LAD, vs COL
Streamers I Want:
Brendan McKay vs NYY (Fantrax 66%, CBS 69%, ESPN 15%) – One of the top pitching prospects in the game, McKay was brilliant in his debut. Look to add him if you still can.
Jordan Lyles vs CHC (Fantrax 62%, CBS 50%, ESPN 19%) – Back from the IL, he pitched well @ MIL, which is no picnic. At home this week, I’m looking to add him.
CC Sabathia @ NYM (Fantrax 51%, CBS 42%, ESPN 14%) – Has been pitching well and a good match-up across town in the NL is a great stream if available.
Good luck everyone!
-Matchups and ownership percentages are accurate as of 30/6.
