This week we are going to go through a couple of trades that I made recently in my 30 team dynasty league. Here they are.
Trade 1
I trade
Dakota Hudson
Tyler O’Neill
Brady Singer
I get
Jesus Sanchez
Dustin May
Colten Welker
Ok. So first, why make this deal. Yes I have up a current MLB asset in Hudson, along with O’Neill who is on the doorstep, and a first round pick in last years draft in Singer. Let’s start with Hudson. He has had his ups and downs so far this year, but really projects out to be a mid-rotation starter at best. Typically what is thought of as a 5 or 6 in fantasy. There is value to that player in a league this deep, but nothing overly exciting. O’Neill, has big time power, and the defensive prowess to find a full time job in an outfield soon. I could feel the pain of moving on from O’Neill in the future. Lastly, Brady Singer who was taken by the Royals in the first round last year, has been fine so far this year but he is trending toward being a back end of the rotation starter or a bullpen arm. In single A this year his k/9 was 8.3 in almost 60 innings, and it has been just 3.6 in his 2 starts in double A.
What I got back, the big deal name here is Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez has performed well to this point in double A, and should see triple A by the end of the year. He was a top 50 prospect coming into the year, and will likely be in the top 25 by the end of this year. He has a 60 grade hit and 65-70 grade power, so he is a nice upgrade on what I lost in O’Neill. Welker continues to hit in AA, and should see time in the majors in a couple of years. Being in the Rockies system will cloud that, especially with Arenado being signed long term, so he might need a trade to see extended playing time in the next few years. The last player in the deal Dustin May. May lacks prototypical frame for a pitcher, but with the way the Dodgers use pitchers it shouldn’t be a huge deal for him. The ERA and WHIP aren’t great in the Texas league right now, he does still have a 3.6:1 strikeout to walk rate so far, so there is still lots of reason to hope that May will improve as a 21 year old at that level.
Trade 2
I trade
Jorge Alfaro
2nd Round Pick
I get
Lenny Torres
1st Round Pick
4th Round Pick x2
This is very different trade. I sold Alfaro who may be at his peak, and gave up a 2nd rounder, and got back Lenny Torres, who was the 41st overall pick last year, but had Tommy John earlier this year so i also got him at his low point. He is just 18 so Tommy John isn’t a huge deal to me, but it sets his time to the majors back by a year most likely. As for the rest of the return, the 1st round pick will be in the 20-30 range, so not fantastic, and the 4th round picks aren’t going to be super helpful to me. With these added picks, it will be in my best interest to try and package them up to improve my roster, or get some higher picks, as it is very likely that players picked in the 90-120 pick range will even stay on my roster. As for what I gave up, Alfaro has shown some improvements so far, but has come back down to earth lately and his stateline now looks very similar to what he did last year, so moving an average catcher in a bad park on a bad team and getting something useful back is nice.
Until the next time,
The Dynasty Idiot
