Tobias Harris Trade
I am sure everybody knows the details of the trade but let’s rehash it real quick. Tobias Harris along with Boban Marjanovich and Mike Scott were traded to the 76ers for Wilson Chandler, Landry Shamet, Mike Muscala, and multiple picks. So what does this mean for our fantasy teams?
The Clippers:For the other LA team, it means that Lou Williams will be able to score as much as he possibly can whenever he can, so definitely want to get him if possible. I also think Montrezl Harrell will get more playing time, so should see increases in all the counting categories. As for the pieces coming over, I really only think Shamet is going to matter long term, but Wilson Chandler I think could get playing time at power forward if in a super deep league. Shamet was starting to play really well in Philly these last few weeks and I think he is better than Jerome Robinson and even Avery Bradley in LA, so while might take a minute, I would expect him to work his way into more minutes.
The 76ers:The 76ers offense could be insane! I am super stoked to see the big 4 there play together! I think while Harris may not get as many shots as he did in LA, he will get much better looks, so I don’t really think his numbers will fall with having better talent around him, I think that he will just be more efficient. I don’t think Boban plays very much to matter, but Mike Scott should get some minutes by taking over for Muscala, and because Philly still has a super thin bench, well until they get into the buyout market like last year.
The Trade:
Pheonix gets Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington
Miami gets Ryan Anderson
The Heat:For the Heat, it isn’t really about getting Anderson, it is about saving the money for Johnson and Ellington, so from a fantasy perspective Anderson probably won’t matter much, this deal just affects the players already on the team. I see Dion Waiters picking up some of Johnson’s minutes, and even a little more minutes for Dwayne Wade too. Both could be useful in deeper leagues depending on needs. However, the bigger fantasy impact is that when Goran Dragic returns, hopefully right after the break. I think even the Justice Winslow has been doing really well-running point, Dragic will step back in and be a producer that should be owned in most leagues.
The Suns:Well it looks like Wayne Ellington won’t play a game for them, as it looks like he will be bought out. So let’s just focus on Johnson. He will immediately slide in next to Devin Booker to help run the offense. Johnson is about an average shooter and seems to do everything well just not great, that being said, still a huge upgrade for the Suns. I see his addition giving the entire team a boost, easier looks for Ayton and the wings, and Booker will be able to be more selective and efficient in his play. Johnson himself I expect to see his scoring and assists go up, and him to be a good 3rd PG if not a number 2 PG on a good fantasy team.
The Trade:
Bulls get: Otto Porter Jr.
Wizards get: Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis
Fantasy Impact:
Bulls: This deal does not really affect any Bulls players that were already on the team, so it is all about Porter. I think Porter will be a really good fit for Chicago alongside Lavine and their other young talent as far as just making the team better, but I don’t think his fantasy value goes up at all. I believe it stays about what he has been, which is just fine, a guy who helps in almost every category.
Wizards: I think Portis and Parker come in and immediately get to play, Portis probably more so since can play some small ball center minutes. For this reason, I think Parker is the one to watch here, and probably the one out of these two I would look to pick up if I could. I think Parker will get points still but his value pretty much stays the same as had been while in Chicago. Parker is the one with the real chance to shine.S
The Trade:
Dallas Gets: Zack Randolph and Justin Jackson
Kings get: Harrison Barnes
Fantasy Impact:
Dallas: Well Randolph won’t play a game for Dallas, but I think Justin Jackson is interesting. He was a former first-round pick so has talent, and Dallas can use him at both SG and SF and see what they have with him. I think fantasy wise this trade just means more minutes for Dorian Finney-Smith and Courtney Lee. I have already been picking up Finney-Smith in any 12 teams and deeper leagues and will be keeping an eye on Lee, could be a guy that could help in the fantasy playoffs.
Sacramento: I really like the addition of Barnes, pretty much just what they needed, and I think he will continue to put up around 20.0 points per game and get a handful of rebounds, and his percentages should get better since will be with better guards and shooters around him. Not saying go out and get him, but if can get him I would. Slight bump for Fox here too.
The Trade:
Bucks Get: Nikola Mirotic
Pelicans Get: Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson and bunch of 2nd round picks
Pistons Get: Thon Maker
Fantasy Impact:
Pistons: Not much to care about here, Maker really doesnt have much value until he does or if he can become a better 3pt shooter and at least an average rebounder, until then no interest in him. As for rest of the Pistons, the only one I am keeping even a little bit of an eye on is Kennard.
Pelicans: This trade does not mean much fantasy wise for the Pelicans currently with Davis and Randle out. When they return, Randle should get most of Mirotic’s available minutes along with Markief Morris who they got in a different trade from the Wizards.
Bucks: I think Mirotic will get all the minutes and all the 3pt shots he can handle in this system, and that is something I want on my fantasy team. Him next to Giannis and Bledsoe creating shots should really fun and make Mirotic a really valuable player heading into the fantasy playoffs.
The Trade:
Memphis Gets: Jonas Valunciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2nd round pick in 2024
Raptors Get: Marc Gasol
Fantasy Impact:
Grizzlies: Before this deal, I was already starting to pick up shares of Delon Wright, now I think he should be owned in most 12 team leagues and definitely in deeper leagues. He has shown he can play well next to a star PG or SG, so he and Conley in the same backcourt should be no problem. Then I would want to try and stash Valunciunas till his return, should be a double-double machine in Memphis.
Raptors: I think this trade helps in real life more than fantasy, but Gasol should be excited to be playing for a chance to go far in the playoffs and should get plenty of easy shots. Even if he plays fewer minutes and maybe isn’t a starter anymore, I still want to own as many shares of him as I can. I think all his percentages rise and without much of a drop off if any in the counting stats.
