Welcome back for week 12 of Streams and Nightmares, where we try to help you plan out your fantasy pitching staff for the upcoming week. BIG list of 2 steppers to choose from this week.
Pitchers are broken down into the following 4 groups. No Brainers, which is pretty self-explanatory. Lock and Load, who are must starts based on matchups and their expected total value for the week. Proceed with Caution are guys that, depending on the options I have available, I probably start in most 15 teamers, but iffy below that. Potential Nightmares are guys to avoid in mixed leagues. Streamers are guys with lower ownership levels that I am looking to add for this week. Their availability will be league size dependent.
No Brainers:
Justin Verlander @ CIN, @ NYY
Clayton Kershaw vs SF, vs COL
Jacob deGrom @ ATL, @ CHC
Zach Greinke vs COL, vs SF
Lock and Load:
Jose Berrios vs BOS, @ KC (Appears back to form in recent weeks and getting backed up by a great offense)
Mike Soroka vs NYM, @ WAS (Pitching above his peripherals at the moment and with the low K rate, I expect some regression is coming. Still, the results have been extraordinary so far)
Kenta Maeda vs SF, vs COL (Usually solid and a W is always on the table pitching for the Dodgers)
Cole Hamels vs CWS, vs NYM (After conquering Coors, I’m less concerned about Wrigley when it heats up. Good team context and pitching well)
Jack Flaherty vs MIA, vs LAA (Still not pitching up to our expectations, however the K upside is still there and you have to like 2 at home on a good team with decent matchups)
Patrick Corbin vs PHI, vs ATL (Has been horrendous, the last few outings. Just ask my TGFBI team. I can’t sit him for 2 though. Have to hope a turnaround is coming)
Zach Eflin @ WAS, vs MIA (Keeps getting results. Keep starting him)
Brandon Woodruff @ SD, vs CIN (Still performing well. I hate pitchers in Milwaukee, but he’s been rock solid)
Yonny Chirinos @ NYY, @ OAK (At NYY is a tough assignment, but he’s earned some trust this year)
Proceed With Caution:
Luis Castillo vs HOU, @ MIL (Better recently, despite walks still being an issue. I hate these matchups, but he’s a tough sit)
Mike Clevinger @ TEX, vs DET (Long awaited return. Would have been nice to get a look before a 2 start week, but if you’ve been waiting for him, it’s hard to sit for this week)
Mashahiro Tanaka vs TB, vs HOU (It’s just the long balls killing Tanaka. Everything else looks good. Tough teams to figure that out against)
Zack Wheeler @ ATL, @ CHC (Two tough road starts don’t inspire a lot of confidence. Have to hope he can figure it out soon)
Wade Miley @ CIN, @ NYY (The results have been fantastic. I don’t like this road trip, but earned some respect, if not trust. Always a chance for W’s on this team)
Jake Arrieta @ WAS, vs MIA (Miami start helps. Looking for W’s)
Rick Porcello @ MIN, vs TOR (At MIN is scary right now. He’s a professional though and knows what he needs to do to get W’s)
Lance Lynn vs CLE, vs CWS (Performing well. The increased K rate is enticing)
Miles Mikolas vs MIA, vs LAA (Good team context, decent matchups. Still concerns me though)
Mike Fiers vs BAL, vs TB (Two at home, with one vs BAL makes this interesting)
Yusei Kikuchi vs KC, vs BAL (Good matchups push him up the board this week)
Zach Plesac @ TEX, vs DET (Homer happy ways concern me in Texas. The 2nd leg is more enticing)
J.A. Happ vs TB, vs HOU (Rough matchups. Play him if you need the K’s and W’s)
Daniel Norris @ PIT, @ CLE (I’m usually not interested in Norris, but the good matchups have me adding as backup bids this week)
Danny Duffy @ SEA, vs MIN (Inconsistent results. At least gets MIN at home. I can see me using him in some leagues)
Tyler Skaggs @ TOR, @ STL (Keeps getting hit around, despite getting K’s. It’s a tough call)
Jordan Yamamoto @ STL, @ PHI (Great first outing, but I hate these matchups. I may add, but not start this week)
Tommy Milone vs KC, vs BAL (Behind the opener, there is some upside with these matchups)
Marcus Stroman vs LAA, @ BOS (I have little faith in getting through the week without a blow-up, but I’ve always been the low man here)
Adrian Sampson vs CLE, vs CWS (After a great run, he came to earth with a thud last outing. Two in Texas is a gamble)
Ryan Yarbrough @ NYY, @ OAK (Usually a good source of W’s, but not keen to start at NYY the way he’s been putching)
Potential Nightmares:
Anthony Desclafani vs HOU, @ MIL
Brett Anderson vs BAL, vs TB
Jhoulys Chacin @ SD, vs CIN
Eric Fedde vs PHI, vs ATL
Michael Pineda vs BOS, @ KC
Homer Bailey @ SEA, vs MIN
Shaun Anderson @ LAD, @ ARI
Andrew Cashner @ OAK, @ SEA
Ivan Nova @ CHC, @ TEX
Felix Pena @ TOR, @ STL
Elieser Hernandez @ STL, @ PHI
Tyler Beede @ LAD, @ ARI
Edwin Jackson vs LAA, @ BOS
Antonio Senzatela @ ARI, @ LAD
Streamers I Want:
Spencer Turnbull @ CLE (Fantrax 70%, CBS 64%, ESPN 22%) – Rough last outing, but been one of the pickups of the year and still available in shallow leagues.
Dylan Bundy @ SEA (Fantrax 60%, CBS 29%, ESPN 25%) – Improved lately and a safer bet outside Camden against a weakened lineup.
Daniel Ponce de Leon vs MIA (Fantrax 24%, CBS 5%, ESPN 3%) – Good matchup at home. Chance for a Win.
Good luck everyone!
Match-ups and ownership percentages are accurate as of 16/6.
