So during these interesting times, with my wife now working from home, this is a typical discussion that we have on a daily basis.
ME: Can’t talk now, I’m writing an article
WIFE: (deep sigh) What are you writing about today?
ME: Doing my top 13 Fantasy Football projections.
WIFE: You know 13 is unlucky? Why not 15 or a top 10 like David Letterman?
ME: Have you seen what is going on in the world lately? 13 seems like the right number.
WIFE: Well fine, when you are done call the tree guy and see when they can come and give an estimate.
ME: Yep
WIFE: OK, going back to work
ME: (says a small prayer)
So with that, here is my top 13 for each position (PPR)
QUARTERBACK
1. Lamar Jackson – Ravens – His legs give him a narrow edge here
2. Patrick Mahomes – Chiefs – Needs no introduction
3. Drew Brees -Saints- Until he shows that he can’t do it anymore, he is near the top of the list
4. Russell Wilson -Seahawks- If the Seahawks were not so run-heavy…..
5. Dak Prescott – Cowboys – Bunch of weapons so no more excuses.
6. DeShaun Watson – Texans – Will miss Hopkins but I think he still produces.
7. Kyler Murray – Cards – New weapons and some running TDs will make him an intriguing pick
8. Tom Brady – Bucs – Tons of weapons if the arm can get them the ball.
9. Josh Allen – Bills – Stefon Diggs is going to help his numbers
10. Aaron Rodgers – Packers – Green Bay may start favoring the run but he should still produce
11. Matt Ryan – Falcons – See Julio Jones
12. Carson Wentz- Eagles- With someone on the team who can catch a pass and Jalen Hurts looking over his shoulder?
13. Matt Stafford – Lions – Like the receivers and they will probably play from behind a bunch.
RUNNING BACKS
1. Christian McCaffery – Panthers – a running and pass-catching machine
2. Ezekiel Elliot – Cowboys – Even with those good WRs, Zeke should still get a bunch of touches
3. Alvin Kamara -Saints – Was kind of up-and-down in 2019 but should still produce
4. Derrick Henry -Titans- led NFL in carries, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in 2019. If only more rec. yards
5. Saquain Barkley – Giants – Could be ranked higher if offensive line improves
6. Dalvin Cook – Vikings – Injury concerns worry me. A totally healthy Cook would only be behind McCaffery
7. Austin Ekeler – Chargers- Melvin Gordon’s departure gives him the clear path to touches
8. Nick Chubb – Browns- Kareem Hunt cuts into his value
9. Aaron Jones – Packers – Crowded backfield hurts his value but his pass-catching keeps in the top 10.
10. Leonard Fournette – Jax – The biggest weapon on a team with very few weapons
11. Josh Jacobs – LV – Gruden has expressed a desire to target Jacobs more often, now if actually happens….
12. Joe Mixon – Bengals – feature back could do more if the Bengals could improve their offensive line
13. Kenyan Drake – Cards – The team’s clear feature back on an improved offense
WIDE RECEIVERS
1. Michael Thomas – Saints – Still probably the best – no reason to think otherwise
2. Devante Adams – Packers – Concerned about the Packers offensive direction but still the main target
3. Julio Jones – Falcons – Still a force
4. DeAndre Hopkins – Cards – Can Kyler Murray get him the ball consistently?
5. Tyreek Hill – Has some guy named Mahomes to throw the ball to him.
6. Kenny Golladay – Slowly developing into one of the top WRs in the NFL
7. Mike Evans – Bucs – loaded offense but also a lot of competition for touches
8. Chris Godwin – Bucs – ditto
9. Adam Thielen – Vikings – Diggs gone, young WR drafted will keep him near the top.
10.Amari Cooper – Cowboys – Need to shed some inconsistency but is clearly a top 10 talent
11. DJ Moore – Panthers – had a nice season in 2019 and Matt Ruhle’s new offense should help
12. Robert Woods – Rams – After a disappointing 2019, all the Rams look to rebound and Woods should
13. Allen Robinson II – Bears – If they find a QB who can get the ball to him, he easily breaks into the top 10
TIGHT ENDS
1. Travis Kelce -Chiefs – Should still be the best in 2020
2. George Kittle – 49ers – A clear second best, almost a 1A.
3. Zach Ertz – Eagles – Carson Wentz loves him
4. Mark Andrews – Ravens – unheralded TE just catches passes consistently
5. Hunter Henry – Chargers – Needs to stay healthy. Tyrod Taylor and/or Justin Hebert should lean on him
6. Darren Waller – LV – and under the radar TE
7. Rob Gronkowski – Bucs – Let’s see what he does after a year off. We know the talent level.
8. Austin Hooper – Browns – Fits in nicely with the Browns after being underused in Atlanta
9. Tyler Higbee – Rams – Has developed a nice rapport with Jared Goff
10. Evan Engram – Giants – If you drafted him higher, you would not hear any complaints here.
11. Mike Gisecki – Dolphins – Who? oh, the guy who has yet to drop a pass on 120 targets and was the TE12 in 2019
12. Jared Cook – Saints – A reliable target for Drew Brees
13. Jack Doyle – Colts – Philip Rivers likes his TEs.
