First Weeks Observations
We are now one week into the NHL season. It’s too early to start making big changes to your team, but it is never too early to start looking to see if there are some upgrades available, or players who might perform better than expected. To explore this, lets look at points per game, and shifts/game, where the player has a point.
We will start with the top 10 in p/GP
There are a lot of name here that you wouldn’t expect on this list, so which ones have staying power. Kuznetsov has been fantastic setting up all of Ovechkin goals so far, and leads the league in scoring so far. Of the rest the only player I see continuing the pace is Stamkos. We also have one rookie in the bunch, Jesper Bratt. Don’t’ expect much from Bratt, in his last season in Allsvenskan(Tier 2 Men’s League in Sweden), he had 22 points in 46 games.
Lets also take a look at picking out some defencemen who have metrics who are trending in the right direction. To do this I am going to look at the top 15 defencemen who have a greater than 0 points per game sorted by the most shifts per game. Here is the top 10 through the first week.
There are some interesting names to note here. Cody Ceci has seen a larger load with the injury to Erik Karlsson, he is only owned in 29% of Fantrax leagues. Alexander Edler is playing a tonne, on the top pairing for the Canucks, and getting some power play time. So if you need depth on defence, these are two guys to take a look at.
